Hello World!
Published by Derrick Gough
I’ve spent most of my life talking — first into microphones, then into headsets, and now apparently into the void of the internet. Before I retired, I was an air traffic controller for 30 years. If you’ve ever been on a plane that landed safely (and odds are you have), there’s a good chance someone like me was the voice behind it. Calm on the outside, chaos on the radar — that was the job. Long before that, I was spinning records and running my mouth on the radio — WYNK-FM in Baton Rouge, WNOE-FM in New Orleans, and even doing booth work for FOX-26 in Houston. Basically, if it involved a microphone and caffeine, I was in. These days, I tell stories about my dad — the man who could deliver a life lesson and a punchline in the same sentence. The blog (Hey Boy!) started as a way to remember him, but it’s become a place where humor, heartbreak, and a little bit of wisdom all meet at the same table. I guess you could say I’m still talking for a living — just with fewer buttons to push and a lot more heart involved. View more posts
